How many remote controls do you use? Having three separate ones for a TV, DVD
player and set top box is now common. And if you have an additional amplifier
and audio CD player, things can really get confusing. Have you ever wanted to

The forté of this device is not that it's a universal remote. Rather that it

26 November 2008 Mumbai attacks

Ten simultaneous terrorist attacks on 26 November 2008 occured across Mumbai (Bombay), India's financial capital and largest city.^[6] At least 101 people, including at least six foreign nationals, have been confirmed dead, and at least 287 have been injured.^[3] Attacks took place in South Mumbai, at the crowded Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) railway station; two five-star hotels, the Oberoi Trident and Taj Mahal Palace & Tower; the Leopold Café, a popular tourist restaurant; the Cama Hospital;
and the police headquarters where at least three high-level officers,
including the anti-terrorism chief, were killed by gunfire. A
previously unknown organization identifying itself as the Deccan Mujahideen claimed responsibility by email sent to news organizations.^[3] Some media reports have attributed these terrorist attacks to Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based Islamic militant group.^[7] ^[8]
According to one news report, the terrorists holding hostages at the
Oberoi are asking for all 'Mujahideen' in Indian prisons to be released
and that seven terrorists are holding hostages there.^[9]^[10]

Armed with AK-47 rifles, two terrorists entered the passenger hall
of the CST at about 10:30 p.m., opened fire and threw grenades, killing
at least ten people.^[3]^[11] Two terrorists held fifteen hostages, including seven foreigners, in the Taj Mahal hotel.^[12] Forty people are being held as hostages in the Oberoi Trident hotel.^[13] Six blasts are reported to have taken place at the Taj hotel and one at the Oberoi Trident. ^[14]^[15] The Taj Mahal Hotel was reported to be completely under government control at 4:22 a.m ^[6]. Both hotels are on fire and have been surrounded and stormed by Rapid Action Forces commandos.^[4]^[16]
All terrorists are out of the Taj hotel, and police and firefighters
are working to rescue the estimated 50 people trapped inside.
Low-intensity blasts were reported in Vile Parle and a grenade attack in Santa Cruz. Two blasts were reported in the Nepean Sea Road area of south Mumbai. A petrol pump was blown up.^[4] All local trains on the Mumbai Suburban Railway have been suspended.

ndia has suffered a wave of bomb attacks in recent years. Most have been blamed on Islamist militants. Mumbai, being the financial capital of India, has been the target of many of these attacks.The most recent Mumbai attacks started at about 10:30 p.m., when two persons with automatic AK-47 rifles and hand grenades were seen holding up inside the CST station in Mumbai. There were incidents of firing in Colaba where a policeman was reported to be injured. Police seized a boat filled with arms and explosives anchored at Mazgaon dock off Mumbai harbor.^[1]

65 Army commandos and 200 NSG commandos have been sent to Mumbai.^[3] The army was reported to have stormed both the hotels to try and flush out the hostage takers.^[22]^[16]

A number of European Parliament Committee on International Trade delegates were staying in the Taj Mahal hotel when it was attacked.^[23] British Conservative MEP Sajjad Karim (who was in the lobby when gunmen initially opened fire there) and German Socialist MEP, Erika Mann were last heard of hiding in different parts of the building.^[24] Also reported present was Spanish MEP Ignasi Guardans Cambó, who was barricaded in a hotel room.^{[citation needed]} Another British Conservative MEP, Syed Kamall, reports that he along with several other MEPs left the hotel and went to a nearby restaurant shortly before the attack.^[24] Kamill also reported that Polish MEP, Jan Masiel, was thought to have been sleeping in his hotel room when the attacks occurred and has not been heard from since.^[24] Kamil and Cambó report that a Hungarian MEP's assistant has been shot.^[24]^[25]

Also caught up in shooting were the President of Madrid, Esperanza Aguirre, while checking-in at the Oberoi Trident^[25], and Indian MP, Krishna Das while having dinner at a restaurant in the Taj hotel.^[26]

The New York Times is reporting that terrorists are holding several hostages at Nariman House in Colaba believed to be owned by Chabad Lubavitch.
Chabad Lubavitch also expressed concern that its representative in
Mumbai, Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg, and his wife, Rivka Holtzberg, were
missing.^[19]

A previously unknown organization identifying itself as the Deccan Mujahideen claimed responsibility by email sent to news organizations.^[3] In September, the Indian Mujahideen warned of the attacks.^[5] According to a witness, the gunmen were looking for American and British passport holders and left alone others, such as a man claiming to be Italian.^[27] Some media reports have attributed these terrorist attacks to Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based Islamic militant group.^[28] ^[29]

Maharashtra state home secretary, Bipin Shrimali,
has announced that the police have killed four gunmen when they
attempted to flee in cars in two separate incidents, and state home
minister, R. R. Patil, says nine suspects have also been arrested.^[30]

As a result of this incident, all schools, colleges and most offices, including Bombay Stock Exchange remain closed on 27th November 2008.^[31]

Westerners 'targeted' in Mumbai attacks

Up to 100 people are dead after terrorists used grenades and
automatic weapons to attack crowds at luxury hotels, a restaurant and
train station in Mumbai.

Maharashtra Director General of Police A N Roy was quoted by the Press Trust of India as saying that about 100 people were dead.

The
NDTV news channel put the death toll at 100, with 110 injured in the
ongoing violence. The IBN Live channel said at least 87 people were
dead.

Teams of heavily-armed men launched coordinated attacks overnight that survivors said were aimed at killing westerners.

Officials said an undetermined number of western hostages were still being held.

A
previously unknown group calling itself the Deccan Mujahideen claimed
responsibility for the attacks in emails to several media outlets,
Indian media reported.

Parts of Mumbai remained under siege on
Thursday, with police and gunmen exchanging occasional gunfire at two
luxury hotels, with an unknown number of hostages still held, top
police official AN Roy said.

A raging fire and explosions struck
the landmark Taj Mahal hotel shortly after midnight. Screams could be
heard and black smoke billowed from the century-old edifice on Mumbai's
waterfront.

The attackers specifically targeted Britons and Americans, witnesses said.

Two Australians were among the injured but their conditions were not life threatening, officials in Canberra said.

Early
on Thursday, state home secretary Bipin Shrimali said four suspects had
been killed in two incidents when they tried to flee in cars. Roy said
two more gunmen were killed at the Taj Mahal. State Home Minister RR
Patil said nine more were arrested.

Police said hostages were
being held at the Taj Mahal and Oberoi-Trident hotels, two of the
best-known upscale destinations in the crowded city.

Gunmen who
burst into the Taj Mahal "were targeting foreigners. They kept shouting
'Who has US or UK passports?'" said Ashok Patel, a British citizen who
fled from the hotel.

Officials at Bombay Hospital said a Japanese
man had died in hospital and nine Europeans had been admitted, three of
them in critical condition with gunshots. All had come from the Taj
Mahal, the officials said.

At least three top Indian police officers, including the chief of the anti-terror squad, were among those killed, said Roy.

Authorities
believe up to 15 foreigners are still being held hostage at the Taj
Mahal hotel. The building's older wing has been ravaged by fire but
there is no blaze in its modern tower.

A Singaporean is among those taken hostage in Mumbai, the foreign ministry says, without specifying a location.

"The
terrorists are holding several people of different nationalities as
hostages. One Singaporean has been held hostage," the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

"We are in close touch with
the family of the Singaporean and are working with the Indian
authorities to secure the release of the Singaporean and other
hostages."

Blood smeared the floor of the Chhatrapati Shivaji rail station, where attackers sprayed bullets into the crowded terminal.

Other
gunmen attacked Leopold's restaurant, a landmark popular with
foreigners, and the police headquarters in southern Mumbai, the area
where most of the attacks took place.

The restaurant was riddled with bullet holes and there were blood on the floor and shoes left by fleeing customers.

Two Australians were injured in this attack.

Gunmen also attacked Cama and Albless Hospital and GT Hospital, though it was not immediately clear if anyone was killed.

A
Briton who was dining at the Oberoi hotel told Sky News television that
the gunmen who struck there singled out Britons and Americans.

Alex
Chamberlain said a gunman ushered 30 or 40 people from the restaurant
into a stairway and ordered everyone to put up their hands. He said the
gunman spoke in Hindi or Urdu.

"They were talking about British
and Americans specifically. There was an Italian guy, who, you know,
they said: 'Where are you from?'" and he said he's from Italy and they
said 'fine' and they left him alone.

"And I thought fine, they're going to shoot me if they ask me anything - and thank God they didn't."

Chamberlain
managed to slip away as the patrons were forced to walk up stairs, but
he thought much of the group was being held hostage.

Early on Thursday, several European lawmakers were among people who barricaded themselves inside the Taj.

"I
was in the main lobby and there was all of a sudden a lot of firing
outside," said Sajjad Karim, part of a delegation of European lawmakers
visiting Mumbai ahead of a European Union-India summit.

As he
turned to get away, "all of a sudden another gunmen appeared in front
of us, carrying machine gun-type weapons. And he just started firing at
us... I just turned and ran in the opposite direction," he said via
mobile phone.

Hours later, Karim remained holed up in a hotel restaurant, unsure if it was safe to come out.

World leaders condemned the attacks.

Australia said the overnight assault in Mumbai, which killed at least 82 people and wounded at least 120, was "a cowardly act".

"It's
indiscriminate, it's a terrorist act, it's an assault on democracy and
it takes as victims and casualties, innocent people," Acting Foreign
Minister Simon Crean said in Canberra.

The United States called
the attacks "horrific" and US President-elect Barack Obama pledged to
work with India to "root out and destroy terrorist networks".

UN
chief Ban Ki-moon said such violence was "totally unacceptable", while
Britain condemned the attacks on its former colony as "outrageous" and
the European Union expressed its "horror and indignation".

Japan confirmed that one of its nationals had been killed and another wounded. A European Parliament staffer was also injured.

The United States and Britain said they had no reports of casualties among their citizens.

Washington
condemned the "horrific" attack and the White House said it had
convened a meeting of top intelligence and counter-terrorism officials
in response, and stood "ready to assist and support the Indian
government".

Obama's chief national security spokesman Brooke
Anderson said the president-elect's prayers were with the victims and
their families.

"These coordinated attacks on innocent civilians demonstrate the grave and urgent threat of terrorism," Anderson said.

"The
United States must continue to strengthen our partnerships with India
and nations around the world to root out and destroy terrorist
networks."

UN Secretary General Ban also condemned the attacks, saying: "Such violence is totally unacceptable."

"The
secretary-general reiterates his conviction that no cause or grievance
can justify indiscriminate attacks against civilians. He calls for the
perpetrators to be brought to justice swiftly," his office said.

British
Prime Minister Gordon Brown said he had sent Indian premier Manmohan
Singh a message assuring that "the UK stands solidly with his
government as they respond, and to offer all necessary help".

"These outrageous attacks in Mumbai will be met with a vigorous response," he said.

Foreign
Secretary David Miliband said the attacks "remind us, yet again, of the
threat we face from violent extremists," and said Britain and India
would "continue their joint efforts to counter the actions of
terrorists".

The French presidency of the European Union said it
had reacted to the attacks "with horror and indignation" and "condemns
them in the strongest possible terms".

It said the EU "shares in the mourning of the Indian nation and stands by its side during this dramatic test".

In
a separate statement, the EU's executive arm, the European Commission,
said: "Terrorism is never justified and is no means to achieve any
goal."

Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon
condemned the "savage terrorist attacks" and stressed his country's
ties with India.

"Canada and India share a commitment to freedom,
democracy, human rights and the rule of law. Among our mutual
priorities is close cooperation to promote international security and
to fight terrorism," he said.

Spain's Crown Prince Felipe also
voiced "tremendous sadness and condemnation of the attacks which seem
to have left such a high number of victims".

Brazil reaffirmed
its "strong condemnation of all forms of terrorism" and offered its
condolences to the families of the victims, as did Argentina.

Colombia
said that it had "also suffered at the hands of terrorism and supports
the Republic of India in its fight against this international scourge,
recognising that terrorism is a criminal and unjustifiable action".

Mumbai
has frequently been targeted in terrorist attacks blamed on Islamic
extremists, including a series of bombings in July 2006 that killed 187
people.

And attacks blamed on Muslim militants intent on
destabilising the largely Hindu country have killed almost 700 people
across India in the past three years.

Since May a militant group
calling itself the Indian Mujahideen has taken credit for a string of
blasts that killed more than 130 people.

The most recent was in
September, when a series of explosions struck a park and crowded
shopping areas in the capital, New Delhi, killing 21 people and
wounding about 100.

Unzip it to a folder
Install the software by name :UniBlue DriverScanner 2009 v2.0.0.26
Use corresponding keymaker to register the software.
Run Driverscanner sofwtare.It will try to find corresponding drivers for your machine.
Let it run but don't install anything.
Go to restore Tab and browse for the driver backup from following location:

This post will cover my experiences as a guy who studied in Delhi in Bangalore.
To begin with I did my MCA in Gaziabad(NCR New Delhi Combined Regions).Some small sofwtare jobs here and there and then got my big break into software industry.

In the last article we talked about the basics options you need to know before buying a suit.

Today we’re going to talk about what kind of suit is most
flattering on different body types. Some guys have specific needs when
it comes clothing that flatter their body type, while others have it
fairly easy. Read on if you find it hard to make things look right on
your body!

Tall and Skinny

Go For Heavier Fabric

If you’re tall and skinny, get heavier fabrics to add some
proportion and additional weight to your body. Lighter fabrics will
hang on your body like a thin layer and make you look more frail, so

Stick With Light Colors

Lighter colors always make things appear more bulky, so use this to

Three buttons will look more flattering on a tall guy because it has

Go For Single or No Vent

Because most tall, and skinny men don’t have much of a rear to
make room for, they can either go for no vent or a single vent. Jacket
vents were created to allow better movement and comfort for the wearer
as well as being a stylish touch, but tall and skinny guys would look
like they have a fuller rear if they stuck to the single or no vents on
their suit jackets.

Look For Regular Rise Pants

Tall guys have long legs, so their pants shouldn’t make them
seem any taller. The best way to prevent seeming any taller than you
are is to ensure the pants have a longer rise; the rise of the pants,
which is the distance from the waistband to the crotch, helps establish
the proportions between the body and the legs. A regular rise will
bring balance and symmetry to your already long legs and torso.

The Bulky Man

Wear Lightweight Fabrics

A man with a fuller frame - muscular guys included - should find a
fitted suit that’s slenderizing. Let soft, worsted wools be your
guide when choosing fabrics because you don’t want to add heavy
fabrics on top of your bulky frame.

Use Dark Colors

Every big man has heard that dark colors are slimming. It’s
even more true with suits because you automatically wear the same color
on top and bottom, creating a monochromatic outfit that makes you look
visually taller and more slender instead of cutting you in half at the
waist and bringing attention to a belly. Choose dark navy or black for
your suits for the best effect.

Make It Solid or Vertical Stripes

Solids work best in creating a slender look. Loud patterns will
definitely work against you, but if you’re looking for something
other than solids then vertical stripes are the way to go. Vertical
stripes elongate the frame, and they also add some chic style to your
suit mix. Big guys can also choose tiny, innocuous patterns for a
bolder look, but only if they proceed with caution.

Go For Two Buttons If You Can

The two-button jacket is now the norm and designed to work for all
body types. Added cushion on the torso can mean a disproportionate look
in the jacket. To ensure the best-looking fit in the coat, remember
that two buttons are optimal. As an industry standard, it won’t
draw attention to your bulky frame, like the modish impact of a
one-button jacket or the slimming effect of a three-button piece.

Stick To Single Vent Jackets

While it’s doubles on the buttons, bulky guys must keep the
inverse in mind on the vent; specifically, avoid double-vented jackets.
Vents, which are the slits at the back of the jacket, allow more
movement. They also attract the eye, so huskier guys may not want to
accentuate their backside. Instead, go for a single-vent jacket, which
will give you the extra room you need minus the extra attention.

The Short Guy

A guy is usually not commented on being “short” unless
he’s shorter than 5′5, but whatever your height, use these
tips if you want to look taller.

Stick With Subdued Patterns

Avoid suit patterns that are too loud, because it will only draw
attention to your small frame. So avoid patterns like houndstooth,
herringbone, glenurquhart check, windowpane check, etc. Don’t
know what these looks like? Don’t worry, just stick with solid or
the more flattering option…

Embrace Vertical Stripes

Vertical stripes are one of the greatest way to create an illusion
of lengthening a short frame. As stripes run top to bottom, they tend
to draw the eye upward and elongate the look of the suit. Thus, it
gives the illusion of making shorter men seem taller than they are.

Make It One or Two Buttons

Choose a jacket with one or two buttons. Whichever you choose is
your choice, but just keep in mind that a lower button stance will also
seem more proportionate to your frame and give you some length.

Go For Double Vents

Double vents emphasize the outside lines of the body so they create
a longer silhouette that complements and lengthens your frame.
It’s also more stylish than the single vent so there’s
nothing to lose here.

Look For Low Rise Pants

When it comes to the pant, look for a low rise. The rise is the
vertical distance from the waist to the crotch; low-rise pants stretch
out the torso, making you seem taller. They dramatize the proportions
of your frame to look sleeker and longer. In fact, the lower the rise
of the pants, the longer the body looks. Also, avoid cuffs on the pants
because they will shorten your legs.

Port Forwarding in Airtel Modem Beetel 200BX

Lot of people have asked me to help them with port forwarding. So here is the post to do the same.

When do u need port forwarding:
Typically
when you want computers outside your LAN to access your computer. Some
examples can be when u set up a ftp server on my machine for other
people to access, or you are running a bittorrent client such as utorrent, or when you want to play Age of Empires on the network.

Steps:

Put an internal static IP on your machine.
- Open Network Connections. Right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties.
- Now select TCP-IP and click on Properties. Put values as shown. The DNS Server values I have put are that of opendns. You can also put 192.168.1.1 to use the airtel dns.
Configuring the Airtel Modem.
- open url http://192.168.1.1/main.html
- Advanced Setup -> NAT -> Virtual Servers
- the Server IP would be same as the IP Address above, which is 192.168.1.10 in this case.
- If
  you want to play Age of Empires, you can just select this from the
  dropdown (it is pre-configured). Click on Save/Apply and you are done.
- In
  case the service isn't pre-configured, such as utorrent. Click on
  Custom Service. Put name utorrent (anything, doesn't matter)
- You
  would need to put which port to forward. utorrent typically runs on
  19556, so put 19556 in all the four text fields i.e. External Port
  Start, External Port End, Internal Port Start and Internal Port End.
- Choose the protocol. In case of utorrent, and in most other cases, it would be TCP. Click on Save/Apply.
- Thats all. Port Forwarding should start working right away. As always, please write a comment if you reach this step :-)

Please note that these steps are applicable only if you are not using any other routers (wireless or otherwise) with your modem.

Bomb squad defuses live bomb near Forum Mall in city

A live bomb found near a Forum Mall in Koramangala area was defused
in the presence of the public by a bomb squad team here this morning.
Talking to newspersons here, Police Commissioner Shankar M Bidari said
passersby, who noticed the object immediately reported the matter to
the police and the bomb defusal squad was summoned.

Within
minutes the bomb was deactivated and efforts were on to trace the
miscreants, he added. Mr Bidari said around 1045 hrs, a youth in his
20s, wearing a red shirt, placed the bomb on a footpath and ran away.
The materials found in the object were a microchip, explosive
materials, a detonator and oil. The object looked similar to those used
by miscreants yesterday, he added. The object caused panic among the
public, who gathered at a distance when the squad deactivated it.
Traffic on the Bengaluru-Hosur Highway, was diverted as a precautionary
measure.

My Machine-Compaq Presario A933TU Notebook Review with WinXP Drivers

I purchased this machine on 14 March 2008 for close to INR 42000.

System comes pre-installed with 2 GB RAM but I added a 1 GB module for the sake of it.

The screen space is awesome for this price and has good clarity.Its been a boon for me as I strictly purchased it for coding purpose.

I am a Java developer and use Eclispe for my development activities. I had issues with its Vista which was pre-installed.This Vista which was factory installed was consume 1.5 GB of my precious RAM even in no application running mode.Just removed it the same night I purchased it and installed Windows XP. Initially I faced certain issues while installinsg XP as was not able to find any drivers it as Compaq has stopped supporting XP on this particular series. But then I found all the drivers and compiled a list of steps for successful installation of XP on it. Google launches Friend Connect - a social network for your site

On yesterday, i.e. 12th May, Google rolled out yet another service called Friend Connect.
Friend Connect is an application for website owners that allows any
site owner to add social features to their website. Friend Connect
offers site owners gadgets created by Google and OpenSocial developers
using which any site can be turned into a social network, allowing
visitors to interconnect with other users. This doesn't mean that
visitors will have to sign up with yet another social network, because
Friend Connect is a network of social networks, that interconnects
users across several social networks like Orkut, Facebook, Hi5 etc.

Friend Connect integrates with contact lists for social networks like
Facebook, orkut and Google Talk. This means that users who join a site
are instantly connected with friends who are already members, and can

is a free and open voice gateway for major Instant Messenger clients
that offers voice interoperability between Google Talk, MSN/Live
Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger and SIP phones without any additional
software installation. In essence GTalk2VoIP turns any instant
messenger into a VoIP client. Another interesting service of GTalk2VoIP
is the availability of a number of FM channels which can be played
right within GoogleTalk.

To listen to Internet radio stations in GTalk, do the following:

Sign in to GoogleTalk and add this ID to your buddy list service@gtalk2voip.com
Click on this ID and type RADIO in the chat window and press ENTER to get the list of available radio stations along with the station ID
Now type RADIO followed by the numerical ID and press ENTER.
This
will place a call to this ID. You have to click ANSWER to start playing
the channel. If it disconnects, which often happens the moment you
connect, reconnect again.

For example, typing RADIO 106 will start playing 181.fm - The Mix Channel.

Why i hate Weblogic Workhop & Portal

My current work requires me to maintain and enhance an Weblogic
Portal application. I’ve inherited it and the first thing
i’ve noticed is that it actually does not need portal at all.
It’s just 3 portlets and user has no ability to personalize it so
simple jsp with 3 includes or Struts tiles (or Sitemesh) would do..

But this is not what this story is about. Before that project i was
a happy Eclipse user (and i’ve been using Idea, NetBeans, Joe and
Vi too
) working on different projects in different j2ee scenarios. And out of
the suddent i’m in the middle of the strange weblogic world..

My first reaction after starting up and playing around a bit with workshop was “File/Exit” start up Eclipse…

But since the guys here did everything using pageflows and bea
portlets so unless i want to do everything manually (pageflow
annotations, portal xmls etc.) and use ant build that takes ages ,
i’m trapped in Workshop.

And why i hate is so much? Just take a look:

- Workshop sucks as a java editor. It does not have 1/100 of needed
features. Not even a simple “generate getters/setters”.
Probably that’s why in the code I’ve inherited from
consultants they avoid getters and setters like fire and access the
fields directly
Ok, maybe not just because of this… BEA should eat their pride
and build something on Eclipse or offer a decent set of plugins.
Workshop realy feels medieval and visual pageflow editors does not help
since most of us spend most of the time in the source code window.

- The editor does not do incremental builds of the whole project so
to notice errors not in your current file you have either to open the
offending file by mistake or do the full build. To illustrate this:
open a class file and change a commonly used method name and save it.
Any errors? Nopes..

- If you work in the ‘iterative development’ mode (where
you rely on the weblogic server to notice changes and recompile stuff
for you - because you do not want to do full build every time, belive
me) and you make a mistake like the one above it’s even worse - i
had one example where the server, after i saved the modified file,
acted like it actually does the right thing, the app was quickly
redeployed (luckily weblogic has 2 redeployment modes quick and full)
but it acted like nothing has changed (=still running my old class).
And no error message on the console Just imagine what a pain in the ass it can be.

- Then you finally decide to do the full build to see all the errors
and the build takes AGES. Not only it rebuild all the files in the
project no matter if it makes sense or not but it also compiles tons of
.jcx files (weblogic controls). To make the matter worse i use only 2
of them in the project but it recompiles all of them EVERY SINGLE TIME.
You think i did something wrong with my project? No way
Do the following exercise: create a fresh weblogic portal project and
cling on build… you see? click on build again.. oh.. it does it
again.. If you know how to disable this i beg you LET ME KNOW

- EJB overdose and un-modularity of the portal itself: the portal
consists many ejbs that get deployed whenever you need/want them or
not. And i’ve found no way to disable it and i would realy like.
You see, we use Portal just as a portlet container + skin manager. I do
not need the content manager etc. But nevertheless i have it
It steals my time and resources. I had to resort to some tricks to slim
it down a bit. They are unsupported (editing the original .jar files
and removing descriptors inside them - i could not remove the whole jar
as they also contain classes used by other portal modules) and when i
will upgrade to another service pack i will have to start my fun
again…

- BEAs strange update policy. To my knowledge BEA is not releasing
any hotfixes for general consumption. They only release “Service
Packs” from time to time. The problem with them is that they also
add features and not only fix bugs. You may like it with you Windows XP
service pack when you get some new stuff for free but i do not like it
with my “enterprise” software stack. Last time i did SP3
update of a project it happily changed my deployment descriptors and
actually re-enabled all the beans and other things I’ve carefuly
disabled by hand. It has also added few new EJBs for my pleasure and
joy. Silently and without asking. It has also modified my domain
configuration and added new authenticator that did not even work in my
case so the whole authentication in my app went down.

- Lack of good information on the web. I consider myself quite good
in the regard of google usage. But no matter what i did i could not
find solution for half of my bea problems on the web. The reason for
this is probably simple: most of the heavy action occurs between bea
consultants and paid customers and it never sees the light. So the only
thing left are the public forums (they are OK but did not help in my
cases) and the rest of the net that does not seem to care about
weblogic that much. With any decent/mainstream opensource project i can
find a good mailing list that have solutions for most of my problems
(I’m almost never the first guy to have them).

And guess what.. i will do my best to de-BEA-ize this application
ASAP. Then i will also de-Portal-ize it. Cause i’m just fed up
with all this crap.

But before that happen, i’ve a gut feeling that it’s not my last bea related post..

Google Ventures Into Virtual Reality With 'Lively'

In the latest expansion beyond its main mission of organizing the world's information, Internet search leader Google Inc. hopes to orchestrate more fantasizing on the Web.

The Mountain View-based company unveiled a free service Tuesday in which three-dimensional software enables people to congregate in electronic rooms and other computer-manufactured versions of real life. The service, called "Lively," represents Google's answer to a 5-year-old site, Second Life, where people deploy animated alter egos known as avatars to navigate through virtual reality.

Google thinks Lively will encourage even more people to dive into alternate realities because it isn't tethered to one Web site like Second Life, and it doesn't cost anything to use. After installing a small packet of software, a user can enter Lively from other Web sites, like social networking sites and blogs.

The Lively application already works on Facebook, one of the Web's hottest hangouts, and Google is working on a version suitable for an even larger online social network, News Corp.'s MySpace.

"We know people already spend a lot of time online socializing, so we just want to try to make it more enjoyable," said Niniane Wang, a Google engineering manager who oversaw Lively's creation over the past year.

Although Google is best known for the search engine that generates most of its profits, the company has introduced other services that are widely used without making much, if any, money. Lively's users will be able to sculpt an avatar that can be male, female or even a different species. An avatar can assume a new identity, change clothes or convey emotions with a few clicks of the mouse.

The service also enables users to create different digital dimensions to roam, from a coffeehouse to an exotic island. The settings can be decorated with a wide variety of furniture, including large-screen televisions that can be set up to play different clips from YouTube.com, Google's video-sharing service.

Stupid Duck story

I was biking down the bike path near
my house, on my way to visit my girlfriend, when I happen to overhear a
pair of ducks loudly arguing about something duck-related. First one
would quack, then immediately the other, then the first one again.
Because I was moving slow and they were loud, I managed to hear a good
30 seconds of duck banter.

Now, experience tells me that if an animal is making noise and you yell
"SHUT UP!" at it, it'll usually comply. So I try it on the ducks.

They stop.

Then both turn to me, and give me the creepiest duck stare I have ever
seen in my life. It was like they were saying to me "We know where you
live and we will come to your house and eat all your bread before we
suffocate you with our soft underbellies."

From then on, every time I see a duck, I get a little nervous.

Jad Decompiler Plug-in for Eclipse

JAD Eclipse is an eclipse plug-in for the JAD Decompiler. The following is a quick description of how to setup JAD Eclipse (assuming you already have eclipse setup).
Download the latest version of JAD decompiler and set modify your path to add JAD_HOME directory.
Download the latest version of JAD Eclipse from the link shown above and extract it to your eclipse plugins directory.
Restart eclipse and configure JAD as follows
In eclipse, go to - Window->Preferences->Java->JadClipse
Set Path to decompiler to "jad" (jad is already in your path).Click Apply.
This
is the basic setup for running JAD Eclipse. You will be able to look in
to you library classes by simply clicking on the class file, or the
class in the type hierarchy. If you are in the J2EE perspective, you
can open up you jar files and look into those class files too. It is up
to you to decide how you want to go. By the way, JAD eclipse also has a

Vodafone, Airtel Offer Pre-Registering of iPhone

When the iPhone 3G was announced, unlike Airtel, Vodafone made no formal announcement that it would be bringing the much awaited mobile phone to India.

Apple, though, confirmed this by mentioning that India would get the iPhone 3G through Airtel and Vodafone.

Now Vodafone has announced that people can pre-register for the iPhone

American Recession - a characteristic vicious circle?

It was when I was hearing to CNN Radio - on the Google Desktop that I
learnt there was a serious problem with the way people viewed recession
and how it is triggered.

Recession is a period of economic slump.More about recession* - at the end of this blog.

Where did it start with the US?

Yes the Subprime* crisis in the US - from my previous blog and when we end this blog

When
people started thinking of the Subprime* crisis they began to accept
that their economy was not doing as good as it had been for the past 20
to 30 years - and this perception was strongly backed up by the Fed
rate cuts - it added insult to injury and they insured that the public
did not come out of this when President George Bush - went to the
NewYork Economic Society answered few reporters in his own witty way by
saying "all is not well".

What effect does this have over the thinking of the common man in the US?

Few facts to be considered -

US lost almost 80,000 jobs in March

Why does this happen? because companies want to ensure that they remove their non-performers and cut the fat.

Companies
want to cut the fat because they know(feel) the economy is not doing
well and the only way to grow is to cut the cost - and remove employees
through Cost Cutting Measures like DELL wants to remove 8000 employees
in the next 3 years as part of their measures to save around $3 Billion.

The circle drawn evidently -

When
others around them start losing jobs - people tend to think that they
would either lose their jobs or not get the right amount of pay hikes
and as a consequence of this they tend to spend less money because they
want to save for the future (where they might need them in case
anything goes wrong).

When people spend less - there is no
buying that will fuel the market - all goods become abundant and
companies start loosing out on margins because of less volume of sales
and then this will continue to hit the job market and continue to hit
until some drastic "feel good" factor comes into the economy.

You cannot avoid recession
Remember
- you cannot avoid recession - recession comes and goes, there is not
much the common public can do about it but to wait for strict remedial
measures from the governement.

Recession can last more than or at least a year
The average recession period for US has been 10 months - that will hit all economies which are dependent on exports to the US.

I remember when one of my fathers cousin (an NRI) came down to my house
when I was just about to turn 10 years, he then told me of the man
called "Bill Gates”. Little did I know of him, little did I wanted to
know, little did it make sense to me.

All
my schooling I knew that when there came a question of who was the
"Worlds Richest Man", I knew the answer. When I was 14 years old - I
was at a barber shop when I read a news article which said "If Bill
Gates converted every dollar of his into 1Re coins, he could build a
ladder to the moon", how fascinated I was reading this? How could
someone earn so much money?

And this continued till about when I was 20 years, when entrepreneurship began to dawn on me and this question came to my mind.

Is
it the money that Bill Gates has, that I have to be fascinated about,
or the "intent" and the "change" he brought to the system that is to be
admired about? I most certainly know the answer now, because I realize
"money" is just a consequence of a "thought process" of trying to bring
in a new lease of life in the industry they are in.

I would not
like to repeat the story of how Bill Gates made it to the big stage,
but would like to throw few references to the man's story nonetheless.
Also remember that we are not discussing Microsoft, we are discussing
Bill Gates-the man.

1) Daring to take it against the IBM?

When
Bill Gates made the first appearance before the IBM, for presenting the
DOS (Disk Operating System) he never had anything written before him
and named it instantaneously.

For every starter there is nothing
to loose everything to gain and hence the loss out of risk would be
very minimal when you are starting out.

2) Meeting up for Hotmail with Sabeer Bhatia.

The
man knew what was happening in and around the world - he was very quick
to pounce upon anything new, even it was disgraceful of what Apple
claims to the UI of Macintosh that Windows has, Gates was over
everything when he knew who was doing what instead or relaxing on the
revenues that were generated out of licensing Windows and its versions.

The
meeting was eventful when Sabeer Bhatia asked the world's richest man
to "come to him" to bargain , Gates never let his ego come in , he let
Bhatia ( a BITSian with MSc(Physics) drop out)
do the talking and take the bargain from him.

Entrepreneurs never sleep over glory; they always hunt to maximize shareholder's value.

3) Multi Dimensional to the core:-

I
remember reading somewhere, Jack Sams - the IBM executive that met Bill
Gates when he was 23 to strike a deal for DOS - said "After I had
talked to Bill for about 15 to 20 minutes, I realised that Bill was a
better programmer than I was,Bill was a better engineer than I was and
at last I realised that Bill was a better lawyer than the lawyer I
had." All this at the age of 23.

It is very vital to atleast
understand,if not think beyond the box for an entrepreneur , he knew
about royalty rights better than IBM did at the same point of time and
that made him the man he is today.

4)Surviving Moments of Shame:-

In
a court room in Washington DC - one of the most celebrated lawyers
David Boies , prosecuted the case of the "Illegal/Un-ethical monopoly
of the Software Market by the Microsoft" - it was by far the biggest
legal battle Microsoft had fought , same was with Bill Gates.

To
give you hints into how it was being done - Netscape was a browser
ruling the roost in the mid-90s,when Gates saw it as a potential threat
he released the IE for free and urged all manufacturers who shipped
Windows as the OS had to have pre-loaded IE , there by killing the
revenues of companies in that line.

The court ruled that
Microsoft was not innocent. Microsoft was split; Gates lost about $30
Billion dollars. Gates came back strongly recovered about $19 billion
over the next year.

Not being in the lows for long is what Bill Gates is made of - so should every young entrepreneur.

5) Philanthropy and Gates

Understanding
that neither firms nor entrepreneurs exist in isolation is a key thing
to show the humane nature of a successful business man. Gates
understood this well and he understands that he is a part of a society
which has a set of needs. Gates has also expressed his intent to
support the $100/laptop campaign through the William H Foundation which
started in 1994 on the lines of Carnige and Rockfeller which later
through his wife Melinda Gates became the Melinda & Gates
Foundation in 2000 and through this Gates meeting Warren Buffet became
a phenomenal meet.

Gates will leave Microsoft to work on
Philanthropy full time - which denotes that each one lives his life and
the ultimate objective of it is to “make the world we live in a better
place ".

June 27th, 2008 will go down into the annals of history
for years to come - the man is still there ... his mark is there ... he
goes to do another magic this time all towards humanity.

All
this I would not say unless there is a Indian implication here - in the
clash of the titans between India and China - there will be an edge
that India will have - that is the kind of creative entrepreneurs and
managers India can produce and all would have to take a leaf of out of
Bill Gates' Story - yes the man himself.

Spice Mobiles has launched their next generation of dual SIM handsets with the Spice D-1100 Dual SIM (GSM/GSM) PDA. The D1100 Windows Mobile (v6.0) has the capability of having both SIMs simultaneously active. This handset also offers services like m-commerce to the corporate executives through ngpay and will also keep them posted with the news through Thomson Reuters.
