Motorola. The DynaTac 8000X weighs 2 pounds and sells for $3,995. Its
battery provided one hour of talk time and holds up to 30 numbers.

BellSouth/IBM introduces the Simon Personal
Communicator, the first mobile phone to add PDA features. It was a
phone, pager, calculator, address book, fax machine and e-mail device
with a $900 price tag.

The Motorola StarTAC begins the trend of making
phones a fashion as well as a function. Weighing in at 3.1 ounces, it
was the smallest and lightest phone of its time.
